Ingredients:

  • Shortcrust pastry

Filling ingredients

  • 5 green apples – cut and peeled into small slices or chunks

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

  • ¼ cup plain flour

  • ¼ tsp ground cloves

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Crumble ingredients

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¾ plain flour

  • 1/3 unsalted melted butter

 

Method:

  1. Stir the filling ingredients in a bowl using a rubber spatula until well combined, sit aside for 10 minutes

  2. Preheat oven to 190°c

  3. Combine the crumble ingredients until thick and crumbly

  4. Place the pastry in a pie tin, then put the apple mixture and crumble in the tin

  5. Bake for 20 minutes, then cover the pie with foil, turn the oven down to 180°c and bake for a further 30 minutes

  6. Allow the pie to cool for at least 3 hours to allow the filling to thicken up

  7. Serve with vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert!
